Ride with Pride Program

Once an independent agency known as Vacaville Ride with Pride, Inc., that agency merged with Faith in Action and was renamed the Ride with Pride Program. It became of program of Faith in Action in 2003.

The program provides transportation to various destinations, primarily to and from medical or social service programs. Unlike the Caregiver Respite Program, which provides 1-to-1 transportation, this program transports several persons per vehicle, on a predetermined route. The vehicles may be agency-owned (one 6-passenger van and one 10-passenger van) or volunteer-owned. The City of Rio Vista provides a city-owned van for use by our volunteers. Volunteer dispatchers or agency staff schedule these rides. Care recipients must be a senior who no longer drives and must be ambulatory.

Scheduling a Ride

In order to ensure that adequate time is given for volunteer dispatchers and/or staff to schedule a ride, those needing to get to an appointment should call 24 to 48 hours ahead. Priority is given to those needing to get to medical or social service appointments.

Depending upon the request and the availability of volunteers, persons with medical appointments in another city may be able to access the Ride with Pride Program. Due to limitations, however, most requests to get to a medical appointment outside the County normally are not honored, with a notable exception for Dixon residents, who can request to be transported to medical appointments to Davis, Woodland, or Vacaville. The agency is striving to provide similar services outside of County for Rio Vista residents; those services are pending.

Funding provided Solano County/Solano Transportation Authority and State of California Department of Transportation. In-kind van use provided by the City of Rio Vista. Additional funding provided by Kaiser Permanente.

Individual recipients are requested to make a donation of $5.00 for the round trip; however, no one is turned away for lack of funds.
